Hollow Knight: Silksong Guide to Reaching Act 3

Having vanquished Grand Mother Silk in Hollow Knight: Silksong, you may be left pondering—what’s next? After you bind her power, the narrative seems to wrap up neatly, almost poetic. Yet, this isn’t the end; there is a third act that unveils a treasure trove of content, including new areas, bosses, and countless adventures.

Your journey towards this new realm begins with the completion of the Silk and Soul Quest. However, initiating this quest isn’t straightforward. Various players have reported different triggers for starting it. Here, I’ll share my personal experience to guide you in unlocking this quest.

Prerequisites for the Quest

Completing Existing Quests

First and foremost, you must visit Bone Bottom, Bellhart, and the Songclave and complete all available quests, including the restoration challenges. Finishing these tasks unlocks even more quests, providing you with exceptional rewards along the way.

Furthermore, be sure to explore the world quests scattered throughout Pharloom, like The Pollip Quest in Shellwood, Broodfeast within the Putrified Ducts, and The Great Taste of Pharloom. Each quest offers a unique experience, and be prepared for the challenges you’ll face with Couriers Rasher.

While there are mixed opinions on the necessity of side quests, it’s advisable to complete them, ensuring comprehensive progress. For instance, deliveries like Liquid Lacquer are not mandatory, so prioritize your time effectively.

Relocating the Fleas

Your next task involves relocating the fleas. Begin your journey in the Putrified Ducts area, navigating east to the flat terrain by the lake.

Accessing this area from Bilewater and defeating Groal the Great is highly recommended. This battle will yield the Seeker’s Soul, essential for your quest, found in a nearby hut post-battle.

To facilitate the caravan’s movement, you must collect as many fleas as possible. There are a total of 30 fleas, out of which merely 20 need to be gathered. Some of these elusive critters can only be discovered in Act 3, requiring diligent exploration. Should you struggle, an NPC within the Putrified Ducts can provide hints about their locations.

Establish Your Bellhome

After completing all quests in Bone Bottom, Bellhart, and Songclave, head back to Bellhart and converse with Pavo. He will grant you the Key to your very own Home. I highly encourage you to visit the Memorium area in the Citadel to retrieve the Materium item and free the giant flea found therein. This upgrade can then be installed in your Bellhome.

Rest assured, you won’t need to buy refurbishment items from the Bellhart shop.

Final Preparations

Before embarking on the Silk and Soul quest, consider completing the following tasks—while they may not be strictly required, they significantly enhance your gameplay experience:

• Acquire a Simple Key from Bone Bottom, Songclave, or the Sands of Karak, and unlock the Green Prince’s cage located in Sinner’s Road.
• Locate all three cogheart pieces around the Citadel, restoring the sentinel to his former glory before challenging him in the High Halls area.
• Thoroughly explore Weavenest Atla and have a chat with Eva.
• Explore as much of the map as possible, purchase all maps from Shakra, and complete the Trail’s End quest.

After checking off these tasks and speaking with the Caretaker in Songclave, he should present you with the Silk and Soul Quest.

Gathering the Necessary Items

Upon initiating the quest, you’ll need to retrieve four vital items. The order in which you gather them doesn’t matter; you might already possess some. However, both the Maiden and the Hermit will only part with their items after the quest is activated.

The Seeker’s Soul

If you’ve arrived at the Putrified Ducts from Bilewater, you should have already obtained the Seeker’s Soul. If not, this should be your first objective.

Expect challenges in Bilewater, requiring all necessary upgrades for navigation. Enter through the Sinner’s road or the Exhaust Organ (if you’ve discovered it), maneuver through tall chambers filled with tricky jumps and large vomitous enemies, and proceed towards the encounter with Groal The Great.

The fight entails multiple waves of enemies on an infested lake. After overcoming them, Groal will appear. Tactically, strike him from below and change sides when he performs his suction move. By this stage, you should have a well-upgraded needle and powerful abilities like Cogflies and the Sharpdart skill.

Once victorious, enter the hut to claim the Seeker’s Soul.

The Maiden’s Soul

Your next objective is to find the maiden from the beginning of the game, located to the right of Bone Bottom, just above the Moss Grotto.

Engaging in conversation with her will lead to her offering her soul to assist in capturing Grand Mother Silk.

The Hermit’s Soul

For this soul, the process mirrors the last. If you haven’t met the hermit yet, make your way to the Bellway Station in Bellhart. In the far right section of the room, beneath the platforms, look for a hidden entrance in the wall.

Venturing down the tunnels, you’ll discover the Hermit lounging in his pipe. Engage with him to receive his soul.

The Snare Setter

The final item is found in Weavenest Atla. Travel back to the Moss Grotto, enter through the Needolin door, and descend onto the light platform. In the middle chamber, leap up the right wall and navigate left to the upper passageway.

Just before reaching the room with the spool fragment, jump up through the ceiling to access a hidden area containing the Snare Setter.

Setting the Trap

Once in possession of all necessary items, return to Songclave and speak with the Quest Giver once more. He’ll instruct you to meet him in the Cradle, right before your confrontation with Grand Mother Silk.

After defeating her, instead of binding her power as you did previously, play your Needolin to activate the trap, leading to an exciting new cutscene. I won’t spoil further details; dive into the adventure and best of luck in Act 3—you’ll certainly need it!
