Hollow Knight: Silksong Guide – Obtaining the Crest of the Architect

As you progress through Hollow Knight: Silksong, reaching the Citadel grants you access to a diverse array of tools. While you may not utilize every single one, their availability can be valuable to your adventure. They’re bound to find a use, especially with the right encounters just around the corner.
In your exploration of the Underworks, you’ll soon encounter a pivotal character: the Architect. This enigmatic machinist is responsible for the clockwork mechanisms that have hindered your journey thus far. But is their intent truly malevolent, or is it simply a matter of fulfilling their role?
The Architect has some remarkable offerings for you, most notably the enigmatic Architect’s Key, which opens the door to a new, formidable Crest that can significantly enhance your abilities.
The Architect’s Lair
Upon entering The Cauldron after departing from the Whiteward, you might have noticed some curious mechanical sounds wafting from above, but accessing the Architect initially presents a challenge.
Your first step is to acquire the Clawline ability, found within the perilous tunnels below. Navigate through the intense heat, and once you successfully return to the vicinity of the colossal metal constructs, you will spot a Clawline ring dangling enticingly from the ceiling.
If you have previously visited the Architect, you can return swiftly via the Ventrica Quick Travel System, accessible from a station just west of their location.
Ascend to the spot where the Architect resides, and you will discover a treasure trove of outstanding items. From equipment enhancements to crafting kits designed to elevate your tools, the real prize is the Key itself.
However, acquiring this Key is not as straightforward as merely exchanging it for 110 rosary beads. The Architect demands a demonstration of your worthiness by requiring a specific number of tools. I struggled to secure the Key until I returned with 25 tools, at which point the Architect deemed me worthy and granted my request.
Locating The Crest
With the Architect’s Key in your possession, proceed to the right, ascend, and turn left to find a grand, circular door awaited by ornate designs. Insert the key and venture within.
Notably different from other chapels where challenges and adversaries await, this space is serene. Simply run to the right, activate your bind ability in front of the automaton, and claim your new Crest.
The Architect’s Skillset
This particular Crest stands out due to its unique capabilities, emphasizing high-damage dealing through a specialized moveset and an array of tools. If you’re equipped with numerous Shell Shards, you’re in luck, although it does require a certain level of skill to maximize its potential.
The Crest is designed with three primary red tool slots, as well as two blue and two yellow slots that can be activated with memory lockets. Remarkably, while utilizing this Crest, you can craft tools on the go without needing to return to a bench. This feature proves invaluable, especially for tools like the Cogfly, which can be underutilized.
Furthermore, this Crest introduces a revamped moveset that transforms your needle into a drill. Although the drilling motion might be slower, its damage output is significant, especially when fully charged. You’ll also gain a new dash attack option, and your downward pogo can be charged for greater impact.
This shift in gameplay style is thrilling and provides a fresh approach to tackling challenges. If you find yourself struggling against formidable foes, consider experimenting with this Crest to enhance your chances of victory.
