The gaming community was excited when Heroes of Hammerwatch 2 developer Crackshell rolled out its second patch shortly after the inaugural update. Released on January 15, the initial patch, Build 115, tackled several smaller issues while incorporating player feedback and requests for enhancements. The Crackshell team clarified that their priorities for forthcoming patches include swift resolutions for more critical bugs.

With 2025 poised to showcase numerous highly anticipated game launches, Heroes of Hammerwatch 2 is already making waves. The game made its debut on January 14, following in the footsteps of its predecessor, which was met with acclaim when it was released in March 2018. Notably, the original supported only three players in cooperative gameplay, whereas the sequel has upped the ante by accommodating four players.

Heroes of Hammerwatch 2: Patch 117 and Future Directions

The year 2024 saw a remarkable influx of innovative roguelike and roguelite titles, prominent among them Hades 2 and Nordic Ashes: Survivors of Ragnarok. However, Heroes of Hammerwatch 2 has made a significant impression in 2025, receiving “Very Positive”reviews on Steam. The developer has mentioned that while there isn’t a detailed roadmap as of yet, the focus will be on player feedback, addressing multiplayer connectivity issues, and gradually rolling out modding support—beginning with localization efforts.

Players are tasked with traversing the perilous realms of the Dark Citadel, where they must confront various foes and collect powerful gear that enables new upgrades and abilities. Although the Dark Citadel remains locked until later stages in Heroes of Hammerwatch 2, each playthrough offers a unique experience thanks to randomly generated levels. Completing adventures not only progresses individual characters but also enhances the player’s towns and overall gear, ensuring that no two expeditions are identical.
