Nvidia’s GeForce NOW to Launch Native App for Steam Deck
At the recent CES event, Nvidia unveiled an exciting development: a native GeForce NOW application is set to be released for Valve’s Steam Deck. This significant announcement coincided with various other highlights from Nvidia, including new RTX 50 Series GPUs, innovative gaming laptops, and the introduction of DLSS 4 featuring multi-frame generation.
Enhanced Gaming Experience
While players can already access the cloud gaming service through the SteamOS browser, the forthcoming native app promises to deliver a more streamlined and efficient gaming experience. According to Nvidia, “The Steam Deck’s portability paired with GeForce NOW opens up new possibilities for high-fidelity gaming everywhere.”
Users can anticipate enjoying gameplay in up to 4K resolution at 60 frames per second with high dynamic range when the device is connected to a TV and streaming from GeForce RTX-powered gaming rigs housed in the cloud.
Release Timeline and Additional Features
Although Nvidia did not specify a precise launch date for the Steam Deck application, they indicated it will be available “later this year.”
In conjunction with this announcement, Nvidia revealed that various virtual- and mixed-reality headsets, including Apple Vision Pro, Meta Quest 3 and 3S, will receive browser support for GeForce NOW in the forthcoming version 2.0.70, set to be released later this month.
Expansion into New Markets
Furthermore, Nvidia is expanding its cloud gaming services to include India as an officially supported region. This move aims to capitalize on the rapidly growing Indian gaming market, enabling gamers to stream AAA titles without needing the latest hardware. This expansion follows Nvidia’s earlier developments in Japan, Colombia, and Chile, with a planned rollout in India expected in the first half of 2025. Pricing specifics are yet to be announced.
New Titles Announced for GeForce NOW
Lastly, two highly anticipated titles from Microsoft-owned studios have been confirmed for GeForce NOW’s day-one support. The upcoming fantasy RPG, Avowed from Obsidian, alongside DOOM: The Dark Ages, developed by id Software, both promise to deliver thrilling new gaming experiences. The latter marks the return of the iconic Doom Slayer in an action-packed origin story.
