Frostpunk 2 Console Release Date Confirmed and Details Revealed

11 Bit Studios, the creative force behind Frostpunk 2, has officially confirmed the launch timeframe for the console versions of the game. Both the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S editions are scheduled to arrive in Summer 2025, following their initial PC release, which debuted on September 20, 2024, amid favorable reviews.

Initially, the game was expected to launch across multiple platforms in 2024. However, a last-minute decision resulted in delays for the console versions just prior to the PC release. Game developers at 11 Bit Studios indicated that the console ports would be released in 2025, strategically positioned between a major content update and the first of three planned expansions, known as the Spectrum DLC. After months of anticipation, the release schedule has been clarified through an updated roadmap.

In a recent Twitter post, the developers shared details about their 2025 roadmap, confirming the anticipated Summer 2025 launch window for console players. Additionally, a significant content update is confirmed to be rolled out on May 8, 2025, at no cost to players. The studio also specified that the Spectrum DLC will be available in Autumn 2025. Furthermore, two additional expansions, titled Aurora and an unnamed follow-up, are confirmed for release later in 2025 and into 2026 respectively.

• Summer 2025 Launch

11 Bit Studios also provided intriguing insights regarding the next major content addition. They revealed that the upcoming update would enhance city management mechanics, paying tribute to the organizational structure established by the original New London inhabitants. The first DLC aims to deepen player engagement with the residents of the city, allowing exploration of their stories in new dimensions.

Furthermore, the developers hinted at significant developments planned for Spring 2025, particularly as April 24 approaches—a date marking the seventh anniversary of the original Frostpunk release in 2018, suggesting potential surprises for players.

Despite a successful launch that saw Frostpunk 2 recouping its production budget within just three days, 11 Bit Studios faced challenges ahead. In December 2024, shortly after the game’s launch, the company announced the cancellation of Project 8, a console-focused title, after six years in development—a decision driven by strategic management changes. As they refocus efforts on the Frostpunk 2 expansions and the upcoming release of The Alters, the studio is poised to strengthen its performance throughout 2025.
