In the world of Freedom Wars Remastered, players, known as Sinners, are thrust into perilous Operations aimed at rescuing civilians ensnared by the Abductors. This immersive gameplay experience is heightened by pivotal choices that can significantly alter mission results and the overarching narrative. A particularly challenging decision involves the fate of siblings Ann and Hal, both prominent characters in the storyline and invaluable allies during Basic Operations.

This guide seeks to unravel the complexities surrounding the choice of whom to save in the gripping scenario presented in Freedom Wars Remastered.

Spoiler Alert: A significant event in the latter part of the game will be discussed in this guide.

Choosing Between Hal or Ann in Freedom Wars Remastered

Your decision-making journey commences once you achieve CODE Level 2 Clearance, where you will encounter the sibling duo, Hal and Ann, both of whom are Sinners. Their presence is woven throughout the main storyline, and they can also accompany you in Basic Operations. Upon reaching your Level 5 Cell, you will receive a message from Natalia, who will detail an Operation tasked with aiding a specific Platoon in neutralizing enemy threats. During this mission, Carlos will inform you that Hal has been assigned to the 15th Platoon, while Ann is with the 16th Platoon.

This moment marks your first critical choice within the game. Opting not to assist one of the Platoons will result in an ambush, leading to the demise of the sibling alongside their respective unit. Each mission tier—1, 2, and 5 stars—offers distinct rewards, meaning you will forfeit those for the mission you opt to ignore. However, the greater consequence lies in permanently losing either Hal or Ann for the duration of the game. While this choice does not alter the overall story trajectory, players will encounter a poignant scene in which the surviving sibling mourns the loss of the other.

The decision ultimately evolves into a moral dilemma. However, from an optimal gameplay perspective, saving Ann tends to be the more advantageous choice.

  • From a narrative standpoint, Hal, as a caring brother, may carry an immense burden of guilt if you choose him over Ann. Conversely, Ann copes with the loss of her brother without the same intense self-blame.
  • From a gameplay angle, Hal serves as a standard damage dealer using the Binding Thorn, a role that many other characters can fulfill. In contrast, Ann excels as a healer wielding a heavy machine gun, making her invaluable due to the shortage of effective healing characters. Thus, choosing Ann enhances both survival and strategic options.

Spoiler Alert: Further late-game spoilers for Freedom Wars Remastered follow

In the post-game phase, players have the opportunity to revive the sibling not chosen, allowing them to join your team of Comrades once more.
