Shuhei Yoshida, the recently retired executive from PlayStation, has stated that the indie game Blue Prince may become a contender for Game of the Year in 2025. Developed by the US-based studio Dogubomb, this intriguing adventure game is set to launch on April 10, 2025, and will be available on platforms such as PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.

Yoshida’s retirement from PlayStation in January 2025 marked the end of a remarkable 31-year journey with the company. He played a pivotal role in leading the division known today as PlayStation Studios and was a passionate advocate for indie developers throughout his tenure. His commitment to nurturing indie games was evident as he expanded the PlayStation Hero Project into new regions, which highlighted his enduring support for independent creators. Though he is no longer at Sony, Yoshida has continued to shine a spotlight on promising indie titles, including Blue Prince, which is published by Raw Fury.

In a recent tweet, Yoshida publically expressed his excitement for Blue Prince, declaring it a potential “Game of the Year 2025 candidate.”This game features a unique gameplay experience where players explore a manor filled with puzzles, and the rooms rearrange themselves daily at dawn, introducing a captivating element of unpredictability. Upon its release, Blue Prince will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam, and will also be included in subscription services like Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus, increasing its accessibility to a broader audience.

Although no longer affiliated with PlayStation, Yoshida remains a significant figure in the indie gaming sector. His post-Sony career has opened doors for new collaborations with independent studios. Notably, Yoshida is set to make his debut as a voice actor in an upcoming game titled Promise Mascot Agency, expected to release later this year.

Given Yoshida’s influential position within the gaming industry and his vast expertise with indie games, his endorsement of Blue Prince signals its potential for success. Should it achieve Game of the Year status, it would reflect a significant year for indie development, especially following the success of titles like Balatro and Animal Well, which received numerous accolades in 2024.
