Initially an Xbox console exclusive, Dungeons of Hinterberg is set to expand its reach by launching on PlayStation 5 on March 13, 2025. Created by Microbird Games, this engaging action RPG filled with puzzles first hit the shelves on July 18, 2024, for Xbox Series X/S and PC platforms.

Recent marketing efforts by Xbox have shed light on the company’s evolving strategy. Unlike its competitor, PlayStation, which frequently engages in exclusivity agreements, Xbox has opted for a broader approach. This includes releasing many of its first-party titles on rival platforms. As part of this strategy, notable games such as Hi-Fi Rush and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle are either already available on PlayStation or scheduled for future releases. With this direction in mind, it’s no surprise that Dungeons of Hinterberg is the latest third-party title making its way to the PS5.

Microbird Games announced the launch date for Dungeons of Hinterberg on Twitter, confirming the transition to PlayStation 5. The game will be available on all major platforms except for the Nintendo Switch. According to Push Square, the PS5 version will not only feature the base game but will also include a “new, secret bonus episode, ”enhancing its appeal as a PlayStation exclusive. This addition signifies a trend where former Xbox exclusives return to the market with appealing features for PlayStation users. Dungeons of Hinterberg has already garnered an impressive average score of 81 on OpenCritic, further solidifying its place among successful indie games on the platform.

The new year has already unveiled numerous Xbox titles transitioning to PlayStation, with Dungeons of Hinterberg leading the charge. Additionally, the beloved racing game Forza Horizon 5 is confirmed to arrive on PS5 in Spring 2025, showcasing the growing collaboration between platforms. Speculation continues to swirl around the possibility of major franchises like Halo and Gears of War also crossing over to other consoles in the near future.

While the current trend favors Xbox titles transitioning to PlayStation, there have been instances of games moving in the opposite direction. For example, Kena: Bridge of Spirits, which was initially a PlayStation exclusive, joined Xbox’s extensive game library in August 2024.
