Famitsu Dengeki Game Awards 2024: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Reigns Supreme

In a recent announcement by Kadokawa Game Linkage, the winners of the Famitsu Dengeki Game Awards 2024 have been revealed, with Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Rebirth emerging as the standout title. The highly acclaimed game claimed a remarkable seven awards, including the coveted Game of the Year accolade, marking its dominance in this year’s event.

Understanding the Award Process

These prestigious awards focus on video games released throughout the year 2024. The selection process was largely driven by public votes from Japanese gamers, with voting taking place from December 16, 2024, to January 13, 2025. Interestingly, despite their prominent presence in promotional materials for the event, notable titles such as Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth did not secure any awards this year.

Previous Year Highlights

To provide context, it’s worth mentioning that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom took home the Game of the Year award in the previous 2023 edition. While Metaphor Re: Fantazio, developed by Atlus, was awarded the title of Most Anticipated 2024 Title, it only managed to secure two awards in total for 2024, making Final Fantasy VII Rebirth the true highlight of the awards.
