Hideo Kojima has recently shared exciting news regarding Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, a highly awaited sequel expected to release in 2025. The game was first revealed at The Game Awards 2022, following a mysterious teaser showcasing familiar characters such as Sam Porter Bridges, Fragile, and Higgs. Last year, Kojima further piqued interest with a lengthy story trailer, detailing crucial plot elements and character arcs.
This sequel continues the story begun in 2019’s Death Stranding, where players again assume the role of Sam as he partners with Fragile to rebuild connections across a world still reeling from catastrophic events and ghostly beings known as BDs. New to the roster is Tomorrow, portrayed by Elle Fanning, who many speculate could be a grown version of the infant Lou from the previous game. Despite limited information, anticipation continues to build for Death Stranding 2, particularly with its ambiguous release window of 2025.
In a recent Twitter post, Hideo Kojima expressed gratitude to Shioli Kutsuna, who plays Rainy, by gifting her flowers to commemorate her completion of filming. Kutsuna’s role involved multiple aspects including 3D scanning, performance capture in Los Angeles, and both English ADR and Japanese voice recording conducted in various locations. Kojima acknowledged her efforts, particularly during the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

While details regarding Kutsuna’s character Rainy remain scarce, Kojima had previously utilized her likeness for lighting tests years before. Fans of the Marvel franchise may recognize her as Yukio from Deadpool 2, and she boasts a robust background in Japanese television. Notably, the cast also includes renowned director George Miller, who lends his likeness to the Drawbridge Captain, alongside filmmaker Fatih Akin, who appears as the voice of a talking puppet aiding Sam in his journey.
