Overview of Marvel Rivals’ Mid-Season Update

In a significant shift from previous plans, Marvel Rivals has confirmed that player ranks will remain intact during the forthcoming mid-season update. As Season 1: Eternal Night Falls nears its midpoint, players can look forward to a substantial update on February 21. NetEase Games has teased the introduction of new content, including a fresh map and the final members of The Fantastic Four.
Earlier, on February 10, Marvel Rivals released their tenth developer talk on Twitter, suggesting that a rank reset for Competitive players was in the works. Although this change would not demote players all the way back to Bronze, it would have seen each player lose up to six ranks on February 21. This announcement sparked considerable backlash within the community, with many players expressing concerns about fairness and the impact on Competitive play. While some recognized the necessity of rank adjustments between seasons, they felt a mid-season reset was unwarranted.
Reacting to overwhelming community feedback, NetEase Games shared an update on February 11 via their eleventh developer talk. They acknowledged the input from players and confirmed that no rank resets would occur during the mid-season update. All other components of the update will continue as planned, ensuring fans will still enjoy an influx of exciting new content.

Despite the lack of rank resets, February 21 will still be an important date for Competitive players. Those achieving Gold rank will be rewarded with a new skin for Invisible Woman, while players reaching Grandmaster and above will earn a distinctive Crest of Honor. This mid-season opportunity adds an extra layer of excitement as players can aim for another free skin and an exclusive crest, though participants must engage in at least ten Competitive matches to qualify for these rewards.
Additionally, the mid-season update will herald the introduction of The Thing and Human Torch, officially completing The Fantastic Four’s roster in Marvel Rivals. While detailed roles for these characters remain unconfirmed, leaks suggest that The Thing is likely to be a Vanguard while Human Torch may function as a Duelist. This excitement around new character introductions is palpable within the community, enriching the overall gameplay experience in this competitive hero shooter.
