E3 Organizers Unveil Exciting New Gaming Event Announcement

Overview of the Interactive Innovation Conference (Iicon)
- The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has revealed a novel gaming event called the Interactive Innovation Conference (Iicon).
- Iicon is set to occur in Las Vegas from April 27 to April 30, 2026, and attendance is by invitation only.
- Distinct from recent editions of E3, Iicon will focus exclusively on industry professionals.
The ESA, the prominent organization behind the renowned E3 Expo, has officially announced the upcoming Interactive Innovation Conference, or Iicon. This new conference is intended to take a different approach compared to E3, especially in light of the challenges faced during the last few renditions of the trade show.
The last edition of the Electronic Entertainment Expo took place in 2021, during which ESA reportedly incurred significant financial losses. Following this event, the organization chose to cancel two subsequent iterations and ultimately decided in December 2023 to retire the E3 brand.
Fast-forward to 14 months later, and ESA is re-emerging with an innovative concept—the Interactive Innovation Conference. With a name denoting a focus on future advancements, Iicon aims to foster an environment for industry professionals to network, collaborate, and share insights. ESA describes the conference as “a first-of-its-kind event designed to connect visionaries, thought leaders, and innovators from across industries, ”all dedicated to “harnessing the power of interactive entertainment.”
Key Details of Iicon
- Event Dates: April 27–30, 2026
- Location: Fontainebleau Resort, Las Vegas, NV
- Keynote Speakers: Representatives from Amazon Games, Disney, Electronic Arts, Epic Games, Microsoft, Nintendo of America, Sony Interactive Entertainment, Square Enix, Take-Two Interactive, Ubisoft, and Warner Bros. Games.
The Iicon conference is scheduled for April 27 to 30, 2026, hosted at the luxurious Fontainebleau Resort in downtown Las Vegas. A number of notable partners from E3’s past have already confirmed their participation, with keynotes being held by industry leaders from companies such as Nintendo, Sony, Ubisoft, and others. This invite-only conference allows prospective attendees to sign up for updates on the official Iicon website. While details on ticket sales are still pending, it is anticipated that attendees will require exclusive paid invitations.
A Shift from Public-Saturated Formats
Iicon represents a notable departure from the public-oriented focus of recent E3 events thanks to its exclusive, invite-only attendance policy. This return to an industry-centric format echoes E3’s original vision, which from 1995 to 2016 served solely as a trade-only event. The shift towards public access began in 2017, altering the landscape of how gaming events such as E3 approached their audiences.
While traditional game announcements have increasingly shifted to other platforms like Summer Game Fest and publisher-driven events, the inception of Iicon illustrates that ESA recognizes the continued relevance of an industry-focused gathering.
