How to Unlock Free Mode

Midway through the game’s storyline, players will notice a new entry labeled “Story”in the Inns or Lodgings menu of any city. Within this submenu, you’ll find a list of cutscenes and battles you have experienced thus far. While cutscenes can be replayed immediately, battles will remain inaccessible until certain conditions are met.

To unlock Free Mode, you must complete the main story. Once you finish your playthrough, Free Mode becomes available as part of the post-game offerings, granting you access to any previously unlocked battles within the Story menu.

Choosing Characters in Free Mode

In Dynasty Warriors Origins, the game emphasizes the original protagonist, Ziluan, as the main character. However, Free Mode allows you to select a companion character from outside Ziluan’s faction. If you’ve unlocked a powerful additional warrior during the post-game, you can include them in your battles as well. Yet, this feature comes with specific limitations.

Key Restrictions in Free Mode

• Enemy Restrictions: You cannot select companion characters already present on the battlefield as enemies. For instance, if you are facing Liu Bei’s faction and both Guan Yu and Zhang Fei are opponents, they cannot be your companions.
• Stage Availability: Companions are restricted to specific stages that permit their inclusion. This means that earlier chapters, such as Chapter 1, where this feature is not introduced, will not have companion availability for any of its stages.
• Scenario Exceptions: Certain stages, like the Battle of Changban from Liu Bei’s perspective, feature different events based on your choice of companion between Zhang Fei and Zhao Yun. Consequently, the Free Mode for this stage limits options exclusively to these two characters.
