The expansive world of Divinity: Original Sin 2 introduces players to a myriad of challenges, particularly in the final act. One of the most formidable adversaries you’ll encounter is the Cursed Revenant—a creature that poses a unique challenge, particularly in Arx within the charred consulate of the lizards.

Initially, Cursed Revenants might seem like ordinary lizards, but slaying them triggers the appearance of an invulnerable Infernal Ego portal capable of resurrecting the fallen enemies. Understanding and addressing the source of their resurrection becomes crucial to overcoming these relentless foes.

Cursed Revenants Are Invincible

In contrast to typical encounters in Divinity: Original Sin 2, conventional brute force tactics are ineffective against Cursed Revenants. Whenever you eliminate one, it reveals an Infernal Ego portal, which remains immune to all forms of damage. Consequently, these portals continuously resurrect the revenants, making direct combat an exercise in futility.

It’s essential to observe the terrain during these engagements. Both the Cursed Revenants and their portals, the Infernal Egos, often occupy areas engulfed in necrofire. By targeting and eliminating the necrofire, you can effectively disrupt the cycle of resurrection. However, this process can be challenging as necrofire is resistant to many common removal spells, such as the Hydrosophist’s Rain.

How To Remove Necrofire In Divinity: Original Sin 2

To combat necrofire, Divinity: Original Sin 2 gives players various strategies, each with varying degrees of effectiveness. Below is a ranked list of methods for managing or removing necrofire:

  1. Remove the Curse: As a cursed element, necrofire is resistant to common Hydro spells. However, spells like Bless or Blood Rain can lift the curse, transforming necrofire back into regular fire. After conversion, Hydrosophist spells like Rain or simply utilizing a water barrel can extinguish the flames.
  2. Use Tornado: The Tornado spell stands out as a powerful terrain-clearing option in the game. When cast, it removes large areas of necrofire, thus limiting the zones where revenants can respawn. Be mindful, however, of its long cooldown period.
  3. Transmute the Terrain: Although less effective than Tornado, this spell allows for selective terrain alteration. You can replace patches of necrofire with normal terrain to reduce its impact and hinder the Infernal Egos’ positioning.
  4. Teleport: Since the Cursed Revenants and Infernal Egos thrive on necrofire, consider teleporting them away from these cursed surfaces prior to eliminating them. If an Infernal Ego cannot access necrofire within the same turn, it will be destroyed.

Additionally, attacking a Cursed Revenant on a blessed surface—such as Blessed Water—will effectively prevent the Infernal Ego from forming. Utilizing healing spells like Restoration or First Aid can also deal direct damage to these revenants, offering a strategic advantage.
