CAPCOM Celebrates Remarkable Sales Achievement for Devil May Cry 5

Following the recent announcement that Street Fighter 6 has reached over 5 million copies sold, CAPCOM is now celebrating another significant milestone: Devil May Cry 5 has officially sold over 10 million units since its launch on March 8, 2019. This beloved installment of the popular action franchise is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Sales Journey: From Launch to Milestone

Despite a strong initial reception, with 2 million units sold within the first month, sales of Devil May Cry 5 experienced a slowdown shortly after. It wasn’t until April 2022 that the game reached the 5 million milestone. Recent figures as of March 31, 2025 showed the total sales climbing to 9.1 million units, indicating that nearly a million copies were sold in just a few months, demonstrating the game’s enduring appeal.

The Role of Media and Promotions in Sales Growth

The impressive sales figures can be attributed to several factors. One notable influence was the release of the highly acclaimed Netflix series based on the Devil May Cry universe, which certainly contributed to renewed interest in the game. CAPCOM reported that the series garnered over 5.3 million views worldwide in its debut week, ranking fourth in the global ‘Shows | English’ category. Additionally, the show maintained a spot in Japan’s top 10 for seven consecutive days. An April franchise sale further boosted sales momentum.

Separating Special Editions in Success Counts

Interestingly, CAPCOM differentiates between versions of the game in its sales tracking. The Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition has sold an additional 1 million units, meaning that combined sales for the franchise have technically exceeded 11 million copies globally.

A Masterpiece in the Action Genre

Widely regarded as the pinnacle of the series, Devil May Cry V successfully captures the essence of its predecessors while elevating gameplay to new heights. Newcomers may find it to be an excellent action game, engaging from start to finish. In contrast, seasoned fans will appreciate the depth and nuances that the game offers, fulfilling their anticipation after more than a decade.
