Capcom has announced an eagerly awaited update for Street Fighter 6 scheduled for release on February 5. This update promises to introduce three new competitive ranks along with Mai Shiranui, enriching the gameplay experience. Since its launch in June 2023, Street Fighter 6 has continually evolved with regular updates that introduce gameplay tweaks, balance adjustments, and new character options for players.
Among the noteworthy additions since the game’s release was the return of Akuma in May 2023, offering a revitalized and more formidable version of this classic antagonist. Following this, the legendary Terry Bogard, a staple character from the SNK universe, joined the roster as the second DLC character of Year 2 in September 2023. As anticipation builds for the forthcoming patch, players are keen to discover the latest features and enhancements.
Mai Shiranui’s Arrival and Major Ranked Enhancements
While the emphasis on revamped ranked matches steals the spotlight in this upcoming update, Capcom is also prioritizing player experience through various quality-of-life upgrades. Notably, the introduction of the Match Restore feature allows players to seamlessly continue custom matches that were disrupted by connectivity issues — a critical enhancement for those participating in online tournaments. Moreover, players will gain access to replays of both ranked and casual matches, providing valuable opportunities for reflection and strategy adjustment.
The forthcoming update also marks the official debut of Mai Shiranui as a DLC character in Street Fighter 6. Fans can anticipate a mix of nostalgic and fresh moves, as Mai joins the roster as the third DLC character of Year 2. Previously, Year 2 welcomed M. Bison in June, with Elena from Street Fighter 3 slated to join the game in Spring 2024, though the exact date remains unconfirmed.
