The Molasses Flood: A New Chapter Under CD Projekt RED

In a significant development earlier this month, The Molasses Flood, known for titles such as The Flame in the Flood, Drake Hollow, and the anticipated Project Sirius, officially dissolved its identity and merged into CD Projekt RED. This transition comes after the Boston-based studio was acquired on October 22, 2021, but the merger process completed on April 1, 2025.

A Reflection from Co-Founder Daniel Isla

Daniel Isla, one of the co-founders of The Molasses Flood, shared his thoughts on this transformation through a LinkedIn post. In his message, he expressed excitement about Project Sirius, characterizing it as an ‘amazing’ multiplayer experience set in the universe of The Witcher series.

The Positive Impact of the Merger

It’s important to note that this merger is seen as a positive step for both The Molasses Flood team and CD Projekt RED. The integration is expected to eliminate previous organizational barriers, fostering greater collaboration within the wider CD Projekt family. Isla conveyed optimism about Project Sirius, stating, “It’s going to be an amazing game, one for the books.”He worked as the Design Director on the project for three years and is eager for the world to discover what the teams have been crafting.

Isla’s Departure

In a bittersweet twist, Isla announced that he would not continue with The Molasses Flood in its new structure. His final day at the studio coincided with the last day of TMF’s legal existence, making the transition a poignant moment in his career.

What We Know About Project Sirius

Details surrounding Project Sirius remain limited, though past job postings hinted that the game might feature stylized graphics, action-oriented combat, player-vs-environment (PvE) content, and cooperative gameplay. An important development occurred in March 2023, when CD Projekt RED announced a reboot of the project to establish a new ‘framework’ for its development. Reports indicated that some elements from earlier iterations could be integrated into the current vision of the game, although the timeline for this remains uncertain.

As fans eagerly await more information, the excitement around Project Sirius continues to build, signaling a new and promising direction for the franchise.
