Death Stranding 2 Guide: Tips for Rescuing and Transporting Wild Animals

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach elevates the experience of its predecessor by not only reimagining foundational gameplay elements but also incorporating innovative features like Online Aid Requests, environmental threats, and a standout aspect focused on saving wildlife species.
Indeed, this sequel adds a refreshing twist to its traditional delivery mechanics, enabling you to engage in a side mission where Sam interacts with a variety of endemic species from Australia, ultimately rescuing them and transporting them to the Animal Shelter.
This article serves as a comprehensive guide to understanding the process of how to capture and transport these wild animals to safety, allowing you the pleasure of visiting and even taking photographs with them post-rescue.
Unlocking and Locating Wild Animals
To begin your adventure in locating and rescuing these wild animals, you first need to complete Main Order No.15, during which you will rescue a test subject Kangaroo amidst a challenging environment and bring it back to the animal shelter.
After fulfilling this primary mission, you will receive a request from the CHVRCHES team, inviting Sam to assist in providing a new sanctuary for any other surviving wildlife. This task can be undertaken whenever you encounter animals throughout the game’s expansive world.
Finding these wild creatures can pose a challenge, as they spawn in open areas across the continent, particularly around the vicinity of the animal shelter located at the valley’s summits. Here are the types of animals you can encounter:
- Bilby
- Echidna
- Platypus
- Quokka
- Tasmanian Devil
- Wombat
- Emu
- Kangaroo
- Koala
- Lyrebird

Given the unpredictable nature of animal locations, utilizing the Odradek Scanner is highly recommended to momentarily highlight animal silhouettes, making it easier to locate them in the wild and preventing unintentional collisions that could result in roadkill. Once located, it’s time to act quickly and carry the animal as cargo.

Close
Approach the animal you wish to save. Once you are within a close range, you will see the option to convert it into cargo. Act swiftly, as these animals can become frightened and flee when you get too close.
Important Note: These large animal cases are considered fragile cargo, so exercise caution during transport back to the animal shelter. Additionally, they may only be carried on Sam’s back or via vehicle, with fast traveling unable to be performed while transporting these creatures.
While you must deliver these animals directly to the Animal Shelter, there is an option to entrust the cargo to nearby facilities or other players if you’re hesitant to make the journey yourself.
Successfully delivering a wild animal to the shelter for the first time nets you the Creature Comforter Trophy/Achievement. After making the delivery, you can see these animals roaming around the shelter’s front. Unfortunately, while you can’t pet them, you can interact by giving them likes, similar to how you’d interact with other residents in the shelter.
Consequences of Animal Deaths
It’s crucial to remember that animals can succumb to Timefall rain, which is part of the game’s environment challenges. This emphasizes the importance of the mission given by Lauren from the shelter, urging players to aid these creatures—or construct Timefall Shelters to provide them respite from the dangers of the rain.
If you happen to find a wombat or any other animal that unexpectedly dies due to the rain, there is no need for panic. The developers have included a poignant feature allowing you to bury the animal and create a marked resting place where it passed.
This unique burial will result in a small holographic memorial for the animal. If you are in online mode, it’s possible to come across similar memorials left by other players throughout the game world.
Lastly, while on the subject of accidental deaths, if you happen to kill any wildlife while driving, you will face a deduction of 100 likes. Though it may seem minor, the guilt of these unintended consequences can weigh heavily on a player’s conscience.
