Crytek Cuts 15% of Workforce to Focus on Expanding Hunt: Showdown 1896

Crytek Announces Significant Workforce Reductions Amid Industry Challenges
This morning, game developer Crytek joined the ranks of several industry peers by announcing a substantial downsizing effort, affecting approximately 15% of its workforce. In a message shared via X, the company detailed its difficult decision against the backdrop of ongoing unfavorable market dynamics.
Details of the Layoffs
Crytek’s announcement revealed that nearly 60 employees from its team of around 400 will be affected by these layoffs, which will impact both its development teams and shared services. The message reflects deep appreciation for the affected staff: “This has not been an easy decision to make, as we deeply appreciate the hard work of our talented teams.” This move follows the postponement of the much-anticipated next installment in the Crysis franchise, originally slated for development in Q3 2024.
Strategic Shift to Hunt: Showdown 1896
In light of these reductions, Crytek is pivoting its focus towards the growth of Hunt: Showdown 1896. While acknowledging the game’s success and ongoing development, the company stated: “Crytek cannot continue as before and remain financially sustainable.” Therefore, despite previous cost-cutting efforts, layoff measures are now viewed as a necessary step for the company’s future.
Support for Affected Employees
In recognition of the challenging situation for those impacted, Crytek plans to offer severance packages and career assistance services to the affected employees. This commitment highlights the company’s effort to support its talented workforce during this transitional phase.
Commitment to Future Development
Crytek remains optimistic about its long-term prospects, particularly with the potential of Hunt: Showdown 1896. The company plans to enhance this game continuously, introducing exciting content and driving their operation strategy for the CRYENGINE
.
Tech Advancements and Community Growth
Despite the uncertainties surrounding new developments in the Crysis series, fans of Hunt: Showdown can look forward to ongoing updates that enhance gameplay. The recent 1896 update introduced critical technical upgrades, such as DirectX 12 support and compatibility with NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR. Furthermore, the game now features HDR support, multi-bounce global illumination, and a fully integrated 3D audio pipeline. Notably, the game joined Xbox Game Pass in December, significantly expanding its audience.
As Crytek navigates these industry-wide challenges, its concentrated efforts on Hunt: Showdown 1896 may very well help secure its future in the competitive landscape of gaming.
