Toys for Bob’s Ambitious Future: A Glimpse into Their Development

In a recent interview with Canadian Guy Eh, Paul Yan, the studio head and creative director at the now independent Toys for Bob, shared insights about the studio’s journey post-independence and the status of their current project.

Exciting Developments Ahead

While Yan did not explicitly reveal details about the studio’s upcoming project, he characterized it as “big and ambitious, ”emphasizing a push towards elevating their craft. This statement resonates well with fans who cherish innovative 3D platformers.

Dream Collaborations

When discussing potential collaborations, Yan expressed a strong desire to work on the beloved series Banjo Kazooie. His enthusiastic tone didn’t indicate that the studio was actively developing a new game in that franchise, but it highlighted the studio’s interest in projects that resonate with nostalgic gamers.

“There are so many possibilities, and that’s one of the thrilling aspects of being independent. We’re already collaborating with Team Xbox, which has proven to be an excellent partner. Their roster of characters is intriguing, and there’s plenty of fun to be had. Banjo, in particular, seems to have been hibernating for far too long, ” Yan remarked.

Continuing the Legacy

Yan’s comments suggest a desire to treat Banjo Kazooie with the same reverence previously afforded to franchises like Crash Bandicoot and Spyro. However, the specifics of their current undertaking remain undisclosed.

Having been independent for over a year, Toys for Bob has confirmed that their first post-independence project will still involve collaboration with Microsoft and Activision. Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty previously noted that the project aligns with the studio’s established reputation.

Fans largely interpret this as a signal for more content related to Crash Bandicoot, especially after the successful remaster of the original trilogy and the development of new titles. There is also widespread speculation about a potential new title or remaster for Spyro. Nevertheless, a revival of Banjo Kazooie would fit seamlessly within the studio’s portfolio.

What Lies Ahead?

For now, updates from Toys for Bob are expected to be sparse. Yan noted that the studio is “very much in the thick of development, ”suggesting that fans may have to wait at least another year for any news about their upcoming project.
