In Hyper Light Breaker, players can customize their gameplay experience through the unique SyCom systems associated with each character. Each character possesses two distinct SyComs, each offering unique abilities that can significantly influence gameplay dynamics. As such, understanding and optimizing these SyComs is crucial for enhancing your character’s effectiveness and overall performance.

Currently, Hyper Light Breaker features three playable characters, culminating in a total of six SyComs to explore. These SyComs are specifically designed to align with each character’s distinct playstyle. Gamers will start their journey with Vermillion, gradually unlocking the other characters as they progress. Consequently, it’s likely that players will experiment with SyCom upgrades and abilities early on, provided they know the correct method to do so.

How To Maximize & Upgrade Each SyCom

Getting Each Character To Their Max Level

When initiating gameplay, the process of upgrading SyComs may not be immediately clear. Players should navigate to the character’s loadout screen and observe the left-hand side, where the initial SyCom appears in an outlined box. By selecting “Modify Loadout”and accessing the SyCom box, players will find a second SyCom, though it may still be locked at this stage.

Located just below the SyCom selection box are the individual stats corresponding to each SyCom. Initially, these may be mistaken for general character stats; however, unlocking the second SyCom reveals varied stats that can drastically affect gameplay. For example, Vermillion’s HP configuration can alter healing needs throughout the game.

To gain access to the second SyCom, players must acquire a Golden Ration, rewarded based on performance at the conclusion of each Cycle. The upgrade option can be found on the character screen within the SyCom box.

Upgrading SyComs requires finding Cores in the Overgrowth area. Players can simply click the “Upgrade” button and browse through the available SyComs on the left side of the menu. Each SyCom has a set number of upgrade slots indicated by lines beneath them, along with associated costs. While many upgrades require just 1 Core, others may necessitate additional materials.

Choose an upgrade for which you possess the required materials, and unlock it. There have been rumors suggesting upgrades might only persist for a single Cycle; however, from personal experience, upgrades have remained applied to characters. Since unlocking the second SyCom demands a Golden Ration, they likely will stay effective long-term. Generally, pursuing upgrades that enhance HP and damage yield consistent improvements.

The SyComs effectively grant players six distinctive gameplay styles. While every character presents an array of options, certain choices prove more beneficial depending on playstyle. Some SyComs modify weapon functionality, while others introduce abilities related to healing or damage mitigation. For instance, Vermillion’s secondary ability significantly boosts damage following a successful parry.

Goro excels at dual-wielding, particularly benefiting from a SyCom that enhances blade damage when alternating between weapons, or he can shine as a proficient sniper. Personally, I favor rapid weapons coupled with ranged options; thus, Goro emerges as my character of choice.

Once you identify your preferred character, focus your upgrade efforts on that specific SyCom. Since acquiring materials can be challenging, prioritizing the main character for upgrades is a wise strategy. Typically, Vermillion will receive initial upgrades prior to unlocking others. Moreover, if you encounter difficulties, don’t hesitate to collaborate in Hyper Light Breaker with others to gather the necessary resources for upgrading your selected SyComs.
