In Civilization 7, effective management of settlements and units is crucial for achieving success and completing the Legacy Path, particularly in the Modern Age. Cities primarily require production for project completions, while towns necessitate the investment of gold resources, providing essential support to cities as they expand.

Each city must adopt a specific focus, a decision that carries weight and is locked in until the next Age. This article aims to guide players in making informed choices about their town focus options in Civ 7, ensuring optimal gameplay experience.

Changing Town Focus in Civilization 7

Civilization 7 begins with towns set to the default Growing Town focus, enhancing growth by 50% until they reach a population of seven citizens. At this point, players have the opportunity to select an alternate focus. While the Growing Town focus facilitates the rapid expansion of the town by converting its production into gold, players must consider whether to maintain this focus or opt for a new one.

When players choose a different town focus, production still converts to gold, but food resources will instead be directed to connected cities, thus slowing the growth rate of the original town. In this context, “Connected Cities”refers to those linked to the player’s town via roads.

To summarize, the Growing Town focus allows for quicker population growth but at the cost of feeding nearby settlements, whereas switching focus provides various advantages at the expense of the town’s growth rate. As a rule of thumb, it’s advisable for players to stick with the Growing Town focus initially, only switching after achieving a stable population.

Once a new focus is selected, players are bound to this choice or the default option until advancing to the subsequent Age, making it wise to deliberate carefully before making a change.
