However, it’s essential to note that, while Sea of Stars features compositions by Mitsuda, the entirety of its soundtrack doesn’t quite match the emotional depth of Chrono Trigger’s.
For any veteran player, the melodies of Chrono Trigger—such as the theme of Zeal and Corridors of Time—are etched in memory, with Frog’s theme remaining particularly iconic.

In contrast, while Chrono Trigger showcases memorable locations like Magus’ Castle, it struggles with scenarios like the overly frustrating Geno Dome. Thus, Sea of Stars earns the level design crown without question.

Conversely, Sea of Stars establishes its tone early on as players battle against the Fleshmancer, setting the stage effectively for the impending conflict. However, while some story elements shine, others, especially those surrounding secondary characters, don’t reach the same heights as the narrative prowess of Chrono Trigger. Hence, this round ends in a tie.

In contrast, the protagonists Zale and Valere of Sea of Stars lack distinctiveness, often feeling interchangeable. Even Garl, although pivotal to the plot, comes across as one-dimensional when compared to the nuanced characters in Chrono Trigger. This round ultimately favors Chrono Trigger.

On the side content menu, while Sea of Stars offers intriguing exploration, it falters due to the requirement of collecting rainbow conches to unlock the true ending. This design choice detracts from the experience, making it feel more tedious than rewarding.
Conversely, Chrono Trigger provides a richly designed world where side quests offer storytelling depth, culminating in different endings based on player choices, especially when utilizing the New Game+ feature—a groundbreaking concept in RPGs.
