During its Spotlight Showcase 2025 event, Capcom unveiled exciting new gameplay footage for several anticipated titles, prominently featuring Resident Evil Requiem. This latest installment in the famous horror franchise is set for release on February 27, 2026.
First Impressions and Gameplay Insights
Initially announced at Summer Game Fest 2025 earlier this month, Resident Evil Requiem captivated audiences with a cinematic teaser. However, the game’s gameplay mechanics remained largely under wraps until now. The Spotlight showcased not just gameplay snippets, but also insights from the development team who elaborated on their vision to evoke “addictive horror.”They acknowledged the challenge of returning players to Raccoon City, a locale steeped in the series’ lore and significance.

Capcom also introduced Grace Ashcroft, a new character who contrasts sharply with series stalwart Leon Kennedy. Described as more introverted and cautious, Grace’s portrayal aims to reflect the player’s own feelings of tension and uncertainty as they navigate through the game’s terrifying scenarios. Nonetheless, she retains her prowess as an FBI agent, demonstrating competency with firearms despite her apprehensive nature.
Gameplay Mechanics: A Focus on Experience
Notably, the game will offer dual perspectives: first-person gameplay targets those seeking a more intense horror experience, whereas third-person gameplay caters to players looking for a more action-oriented approach. This versatility in gameplay is designed to attract a broad audience of gamers.
The Significance of Raccoon City and the Game’s Title
Director Koshi Nakanishi shared profound insights regarding the narrative foundation of Resident Evil Requiem. He remarked on the importance of revisiting Raccoon City, describing the game as a “requiem”that honors the legacy of past narratives and characters within the franchise.“This game is a requiem, a eulogy to those who came before. Resident Evil is a series that was born from Umbrella and the Raccoon City zombie outbreak. And we chose the title ‘Requiem’ to mark a milestone in the series, ”Nakanishi stated.
