In a notable move, CD Projekt Red has rolled out a new update for its acclaimed open-world RPG, Cyberpunk 2077. The latest patch advances the game to version 2.21 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, ushering in a wealth of bug fixes and enhancements, including the highly anticipated support for DLSS 4 on PC. Although the studio had previously indicated that many of its developers transitioned to other projects, resulting in no significant updates for Cyberpunk 2077, the game continues to evolve with valuable improvements.
The most significant update prior to this was patch 2.2, released in December, which surprised players who thought major patches had concluded for the game. This update included exciting gameplay additions such as expanded vehicle customization options, a hidden Balatro quest, and an extensive redesign of the photo mode, offering numerous requested features like the ability to spawn three different NPCs and a new lighting interface.
While patch 2.21 does not introduce new customization features, players can expect a slew of improvements. This update is downloadable now on all platforms and, aside from DLSS 4 support, it also includes crucial fixes for various aspects, notably the revamped photo mode, character creation, and vehicle customization. Among the key fixes is the resolution of an issue where Johnny Silverhand might appear duplicated in passenger seats during certain quests. For those interested, a comprehensive changelog detailing all modifications can be found further below in this article.
Despite its turbulent launch in 2020, which led to its removal from the PlayStation Store due to numerous performance issues, Cyberpunk 2077 has remarkably sold over 30 million copies since release, as announced by CD Projekt Red in November 2024. Additionally, the expansion, Phantom Liberty, has also garnered significant sales, reaching 8 million copies.
Looking ahead, CD Projekt Red is currently focusing on sequels to both Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3. The studio is also developing multiple projects, including a new IP referred to as Project Hader. It was revealed that substantial resources are earmarked for The Witcher 4 and the eagerly awaited sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.
