Beat Saber Ends Support for PlayStation VR

Beat Saber, a frontrunner in the virtual reality gaming landscape, is set to cease support for the PlayStation VR platform, as announced by developer Beat Games. Although players on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 will still have access to the game, no further updates or new content will be forthcoming.

A Shift Towards the Future

In a recent social media update, the Meta-owned developer revealed their strategic direction: “As we look to the future and plan the next big leap for Beat Saber, we have made the decision to no longer release updates for PS4 and PS5 starting in June 2025.”This reflects their commitment to advancing VR technology and expanding the Beat Saber experience for its dedicated fan base over the past seven years.

Final Content Release and Ongoing Support

The last piece of new content, Lady Gaga’s “Abracadabra, ”launched on June 5 and will be the final addition for users on PlayStation VR and PlayStation VR2. While the game will retain its current playable content, including all downloadable content (DLC) and individual purchases, no additional songs will be released on these platforms. Importantly, customer support will continue to be available for existing users.

Multiplayer Features Set to Conclude

Additionally, players should note that Beat Saber’s multiplayer feature on PlayStation will be disabled on January 21, 2026, impacting both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 users. Despite these changes, the studio reassured players that they can continue to enjoy the existing content without interruption.

Continued Availability and Cross-Buy Features

Beat Saber will remain available for purchase on the PlayStation Store, and the in-game store will still operate, allowing players to acquire any previously released content. Furthermore, the cross-buy functionality between PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 will stay active, ensuring a seamless experience across both platforms.

Looking Ahead

Beat Games expressed their gratitude to the community, stating, “We’re grateful for the incredible support you’ve shown us over the years, and we’re excited to share what the future holds for Beat Saber.”They have also assured PC players that they will continue to receive support for the Steam version of the game, along with Meta Quest headset compatibility.

As players transition from PlayStation to other platforms, it reflects a broader industry trend where developers focus on maximizing their capacities and innovations in rapidly evolving tech landscapes.
