Baldur’s Gate 3: Teaser Trailer Reveals Act Two Expansion Mod Details

Exciting Developments in Baldur’s Gate 3 Modding Community
Thanks to Larian Studios’ decision to release official modding tools for Baldur’s Gate 3, a wave of innovative custom campaigns has emerged. One such project, dubbed Act Two Expansion, has captivated the community with a recently released teaser trailer by its creator, SquallyDaBeanz.
Unveiling the Act Two Expansion
SquallyDaBeanz has shared that the Act Two Expansion introduces an entirely new region for players to explore between Acts 2 and 3. This expansive area promises a wealth of features, including new locations, dungeons, encounters, items, and a variety of puzzles and secrets. Aimed at enhancing the gameplay experience, this mod is designed to mirror the exploratory nature of the Wilderness encountered in Act 1, leaning heavily on combat and exploration rather than narrative depth. That said, gamers can still expect to discover lore-based notes that provide insight into this new region.
Setting and Gameplay Mechanics
The narrative setting of the Act Two Expansion occurs after players exit the Shadow Cursed Lands but before they enter Baldur’s Gate. As the Absolute’s army advances, players must navigate the perilous Chionthar River, leading up to a climactic confrontation against this formidable army in Rivington. The mod aims to offer engaging gameplay tailored for characters at levels 8–10, ensuring a balanced and challenging experience.
Compatibility and Multiplayer Features
According to SquallyDaBeanz, the majority of existing mods should seamlessly integrate with this expansion, with exceptions for those that alter the Shadow Cursed Lands’ levels or templates. Furthermore, the mod fully supports multiplayer gameplay, provided all participants have it installed.
Future Prospects and Cross-Platform Considerations
While Baldur’s Gate 3 allows for cross-platform mods, SquallyDaBeanz has indicated that the Act Two Expansion is unlikely to receive console approval, so fans shouldn’t expect it on those platforms. The current objective is to release the mod before the year concludes, promising an exciting addition to the game before the holiday season.
For those interested in tracking the evolution of this mod, updates can be followed on SquallyDaBeanz’s Patreon. In addition to the Act Two Expansion, the modder is also working on another campaign titled Forsaken, which seeks to recreate the undead starting zone from World of Warcraft‘s Tirisfal Glades. Gamers can find a teaser level available on Nexus.
