Respawn Entertainment has officially announced the arrival of the new season, titled Apex Legends: Prodigy, set to commence on Tuesday, May 6. This season introduces a fresh character, Sparrow, to the gameplay experience.

Meet Sparrow: The Maverick Hero of the Outlands

Sparrow, whose real name is Enea Davide Guarino, emerges from a legacy steeped in reverence for bounty hunting. His clan is famed for its superior archery abilities and a strict adherence to moral codes. However, Enea’s rebellious spirit set him apart as the ‘black sheep’ of the family. After a reckless choice led to his expulsion from the clan, he finds himself striving for redemption and acceptance through participation in the Apex Games.

The new character aims to balance independence and familial approval as he competes. For the initial two weeks of Apex Legends: Prodigy, all players will have the opportunity to try out Sparrow, with the chance to permanently unlock him by completing various skill challenges involving Legends, weapons, and combat performance.

Sparrow’s Unique Abilities

• Passive Ability – Double Jump: This feature allows players to leap double the height by pressing the jump button again while airborne. Additionally, utilizing a double jump while climbing a wall propels players directly to the top.
• Tactical Ability – Tracker Dart: With this tool, players can reveal the location of enemies traversing a designated area.
• Ultimate Ability – Stinger Bolt: Sparrow can unleash devastation on multiple foes with a large arrow that creates a damaging energy field affecting anyone in its line of sight.

What’s New in the Prodigy Season?

The Apex Legends: Prodigy season will also witness the return of the Bocek Compound Bow, which can now be enhanced with Frag Grenades to produce Explosive Arrows. Arena matches are making a comeback, albeit restructured—matches will now be shorter, with the first team to win three rounds declared the champion. Additionally, players will experience temporary bans on weapons recently selected from the store, alongside strategic discounts in designated rounds to encourage diverse weapon use. Importantly, Health items will be immediately available at round commencement, and a new 1v1 Arena variant called Duels is anticipated later this season.

Ranked Mode Enhancements

Changes are also on the way for the Ranked mode. Players’ starting Rank Tier and Division will now reflect their hidden skill value from previous seasons, marking a significant shift in competitive gameplay. The previous Bronze reset rule for players who did not participate in a season has been eradicated. Furthermore, the introduction of Ranked Challenges and Ranked Ladders will provide players with additional objectives to pursue. In recent news, significant layoffs have affected both the Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi teams at Respawn Entertainment, resulting in the unfortunate cancellation of two early-stage projects, including a much-anticipated Titanfall extraction shooter.
