Announcement Anticipated Today for God of War 2.5D Metroidvania Spin-off

Exciting News Ahead for God of War Fans
Insider Tom Henderson has hinted at a potential announcement from Sony regarding a new installment in the God of War franchise during today’s State of Play live stream. However, this upcoming title will not be part of the main series. Instead, it is expected to be a 2.5D Metroidvania-inspired game, set against the backdrop of ancient Greece.
What to Expect from the New Game?
This new project appears to be less ambitious than previously speculated, with Henderson suggesting a smaller scope than one might typically anticipate from a God of War title. Fans could see similarities to Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. It seems likely that this game may serve as a temporary offering while Sony Santa Monica works on another project.
Future Developments from Sony Santa Monica
Currently, there are two main teams at SONY Santa Monica, and it is rumored that the next major release from Cory Barlog’s team will introduce a new intellectual property (IP) set in a sci-fi universe. While a new mainline God of War game is expected in the future, it wouldn’t be surprising to see it launch on the forthcoming PlayStation 6, considering the lengthy development cycles often associated with triple-A games.
Rumors and Speculations
Earlier this year, whispers surfaced about a potential remaster of the original Greek trilogy. It remains uncertain whether these rumors hold water, or if they may have been a misinterpretation of the upcoming 2.5D Metroidvania-inspired release. Nevertheless, fans should stay tuned for additional updates, which are imminent in approximately twelve hours.
It’s also noteworthy that the developer is collaborating with Amazon Prime Video to create a live-action adaptation of the Norse trilogy. However, production faced delays following a significant change, as showrunner Rafe Judkins has been replaced by Ronald D. Moore. Moore is renowned for his work on acclaimed series such as Star Trek: The Next Generation, Battlestar Galactica, For All Mankind, and Outlander.
Stay tuned for updates and insights as the live stream unfolds!
