AMD FSR 3 Debuts Soon on Consoles in Immortals of Aveum; Frame Pacing Improvements, HDR Coming to PC, Too

More than six months ago, Ascendant Studios, an independent developer, made a commitment to bring AMD FSR 3 to the console versions of Immortals of Aveum. This will be a groundbreaking achievement, as no other console game currently utilizes any frame generation technique.
After a significant period of silence, Ascendant Studios has finally announced their plans to release the 1.0.6.4 patch for consoles. According to a statement given to Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry, the patch will include the highly anticipated AMD FSR 3 frame generation component. The developer collaborated with Enduring Games, a company known for their successful ports and co-development projects, to implement this feature. Notable examples of Enduring’s work include Demon’s Souls for PlayStation 5, Godfall for PlayStation 5 and Epic Games Store, Knockout City for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms, Borderlands 3’s cross-platform play update, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, Tribes of Midgard’s cross
Although AMD FSR 3 was already launched on PC, it was accompanied by significant stuttering and frame pacing problems. However, according to Digital Foundry, Ascendant Studios and Enduring Games have announced plans to enhance the implementation by adding support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) monitors and TVs on both PC and consoles. This is expected to address frame pacing issues and minimize instances of judder or screen tearing.
Today, the developer released update 1.0.6.3, which includes support for High Dynamic Range (HDR) displays on consoles. According to reports, the PC version of Immortals of Aveum will also receive HDR support in a future update. In the meantime, PC players can utilize options such as NVIDIA’s RTX HDR, Windows AutoHDR, Kaldaien’s Special K, or Pumbo/Lilium HDR.
Despite facing financial struggles, Immortals of Aveum saw a decline in profits which resulted in almost half of Ascendant’s employees being let go. Nonetheless, Bret Robbins, the founder and director, has recently announced that sales have shown signs of improvement in the past few months, giving hope for the potential redemption of the game.
