Acclaim’s Grand Return: A New Era in Gaming
This year marks an exciting chapter for gaming enthusiasts as Acclaim, a publisher that defined the 90s video game landscape, makes its notable comeback. The company has transitioned from a nostalgic relic of the past to a modern player in today’s dynamic gaming world. Recent highlights include the inaugural PlayAcclaim showcase, where Acclaim unveiled a robust slate of nine titles currently under its publishing umbrella, one of which, the action-horror game Katanaut, debuted alongside the event.
The Showcase: Featured Titles
The PlayAcclaim event not only celebrated the launch of Katanaut but also introduced eight additional games catering to a variety of tastes. Here’s a quick overview:
- Katanaut – A thrilling 2D action-horror experience.
- GRIDBeat! – A top-down 2D rhythm-based adventure.
- Talaka – A roguelite with intense combat mechanics.
- The Prisoning: Fletcher’s Quest – A captivating 2D platformer.
- Pixel Washer – A creative twist on cleaning games.
- Basketball Classics – A nostalgic arcade-style basketball game featuring legendary NBA rosters.
- Ground Hero Zero – An action-packed bullet-hell roguelite.

Platform Availability
Currently, these titles are predominantly launching on PC, with the exception of Basketball Classics, which is also available on the Nintendo Switch. Interested players can find demos for both Katanaut and Pixel Washer on Steam for immediate access.
Executive Perspective
Alex Josef, the CEO of Acclaim, expressed enthusiasm about this revival, stating, “We’re ecstatic to relaunch Acclaim with a lineup that captures our legacy of bold creativity and delivers fresh, unforgettable experiences. These games are just the beginning of our mission to redefine fun for players everywhere.”
While only one game from the showcase launched today, it’s worth noting that Basketball Classics was previously released in 2019. Acclaim has now taken over its publishing rights, signaling a strategic move in their renewed identity.
