Upgrading Armor in Monster Hunter Wilds

To initiate the armor upgrading process in Monster Hunter Wilds, visit the Smithy located at any Base Camp scattered throughout the game’s expansive map. Keep in mind that the option to upgrade armor won’t be unlocked until you reach the Oilwell Basin region, which occurs fairly early in the gameplay—typically just a few hours in.

Each type of Armor Sphere provides varying amounts of upgrade points:

  • Armor Sphere: 10 points
  • Armor Sphere+: 50 points
  • Advanced Armor Sphere: 200 points

As an example, if you focus on upgrading a Low Rank armor set, you’ll find that each piece has a total of eight levels. The first six levels each require 30 points, while levels beyond that demand significantly more—200 points per upgrade. It’s crucial to plan your usage of Armor Spheres wisely to maximize efficiency.

Conversely, for High Rank armor, be prepared to invest more Armor Spheres. High Rank pieces have a total of four levels available, and each advancement will require 200 points, effectively consuming an entire Advanced Armor Sphere for each upgrade.

Acquiring Armor Spheres in Monster Hunter Wilds

Armor Spheres are primarily earned through quests and assignments within Monster Hunter Wilds. Players will quickly discover that they often receive these valuable items as rewards for completing various story-related quests, such as missions to fend off the Jin Dahaad or to hunt the Xu Wu.

Additionally, one of the most effective methods for accumulating Armor Spheres is by completing optional quests tailored to the monsters you aim to hunt or the materials you wish to gather. For instance, if you’re working towards acquiring a full Lala Barina armor set, selecting optional quests that involve this creature allows for dual benefits: securing the necessary materials while also harvesting Armor Spheres from quest completions.

In the post-game phase of Monster Hunter Wilds, players can also smelt surplus monster materials into Armor Spheres at the Smelting Foundry, found in the Oilwell Basin’s Base Camp. This is an excellent way to repurpose lower rank materials that may otherwise go to waste during your adventures.
