Oblivion Remastered has introduced a revamped visual style for the persuasion wheel, making it simpler to gauge the effects of your choices without needing to focus on the subtle changes in a character’s facial expressions after the initial attempt. The wheel consists of four actions: joke, admire, coerce, and boast. Among these, two responses are highlighted in red (indicating disapproval) and two in green (denoting approval).Additionally, each option is marked with a varying number of bars from one to four, illustrating the strength of the NPC’s potential response. For example, a red choice with four bars signals intense dislike and a significant reduction in disposition, whereas a green choice with two bars indicates only a slight increase.

During your initial attempt at persuasion, you’ll notice all choices are presented in gold. It’s crucial at this stage to observe NPC expressions carefully to discern which responses are favorable. The key is to maximize the approval rate from the NPC; selecting an action will adjust the effectiveness of subsequent options based on the outcome. For instance, if “Joke”has two bars while “Brag”has four, your selection will shift the effectiveness of “Joke”to four bars for the next round. Therefore, it’s advantageous to strategize your selections.

Keep in mind that failing to persuade can significantly drop an NPC’s disposition, negating any previous successes in the minigame. A notable experience involved a complete disposition drop to zero for an innkeeper, resulting in an attack after our conversation concluded. Despite this, engaging in the persuasion game allows you to accumulate points toward advancing your speechcraft level. As you achieve higher tiers in this skill, you can minimize the negative repercussions associated with unapproved responses and, at the Master level, enjoy a 50% reduction in bribe costs.

If you find yourself in a precarious situation, reloading your game can reset an NPC’s unfavorable disposition, a helpful trick that worked in my experience!

Alternatives to the Persuasion Wheel: Raising Disposition Effectively

For players who prefer a simpler method of enhancing disposition, casting charm spells from the Illusion school provides a practical alternative. There are three standard varieties of charm spells: novice, apprentice, and journeyman. Unique charm capabilities are available to vampires and Imperials as well. Higher-tier charm spells yield more significant improvements in disposition than lower-tier spells. Although the effects last for only about 30 seconds, this time frame is often sufficient to secure a needed deal or extract valuable information from the NPC before time expires.

You can conveniently acquire basic charm spells from Delphine Jend at the Bravil Mages Guild, making this an accessible option for players looking to enhance their interactions without the complexities of the persuasion wheel.
