Overwatch 2 has introduced a new hotfix for Overwatch: Classic, reinstating many elements of Doomfist’s abilities to their original 2017 specifications. This includes adjustments to the ground checks and the shockwave hitbox of Seismic Slam, as well as the air time for Rising Uppercut. These updates are currently active in Overwatch 2, specifically within the Moth Meta Overwatch: Classic game mode.
At present, Overwatch 2 is in its second iteration of Overwatch: Classic, a limited-time gameplay mode designed to evoke the essence of the original game. Unlike the initial balance experienced in the 2016 release, this version revisits the notorious Mercy-dominated Moth Meta, which characterized the game in September 2017 following the introduction of Ana, Sombra, and Doomfist.
To enhance this nostalgic experience, Blizzard has rolled out a hotfix that revives Doomfist’s original mechanics from eight years back. Once a damage-focused hero during this era, Doomfist has received several crucial bug fixes that recalibrate the ground checks and hitbox of Seismic Slam, along with adjustments to the air time and control loss duration of Rising Uppercut. Notably, the ability to cancel these moves with Rocket Punch or Meteor Strike has been disabled. It is important to note that these adjustments apply solely to Overwatch: Classic and do not impact the main game modes.
This recent update is part of a broader series of modifications Blizzard has made during this particular run of Overwatch: Classic. Just the day prior, a patch was released to address issues concerning Mercy, ensuring that she embodies the essence of her iconic role in the Moth Meta. Players can anticipate further bug fixes throughout the final week of Overwatch: Classic to rectify additional inconsistencies reported during this nostalgic event.
The implementation of this hotfix exemplifies Overwatch 2’s advanced Rapid Balance Update technology, which allows developers to address bugs and make balance changes efficiently between major updates. This capability is crucial for the success of limited-time events like Overwatch: Classic, ensuring a refined and balanced gameplay experience.
Overwatch: Classic is scheduled to conclude on February 18, coinciding with the start of Overwatch 2 Season 15. While specifics regarding this upcoming season remain limited, players can expect more detailed announcements about Season 15, including new heroes, maps, and significant changes set for 2025, during the Overwatch 2 Spotlight event on February 12 at 10 AM PST.
