NOBUNAGA’S AMBITION: Awakening Complete Edition Struggles with 4K@60 on Switch 2

Anticipation Surrounding the Nintendo Switch 2’s Launch and Performance Insights
The gaming community is buzzing with excitement as the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is set to hit global stores next week. This next-generation console is already generating speculation about its impressive capabilities, particularly its system performance specifications.
With the ability to render up to 120 frames per second in handheld mode and reach stunning 4K resolution at 60 frames per second when docked, expectations are high. Notably, the console aims to support complex open-world titles, such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Star Wars Outlaws, which are being adapted for this new hardware.
Insights from Koei Tecmo on Launch Titles
In an exclusive interview regarding the launch title NOBUNAGA’S AMBITION: Awakening Complete Edition, insights from Koei Tecmo revealed challenges in achieving the anticipated performance metrics. The developers initially aimed for 4K resolution at 60 FPS but ultimately had to downgrade to a stable 1080P at 30 FPS.
“We are not using NVIDIA DLSS. The game runs at Full HD and 30fps. We also experimented with 4K and 60fps, but the power required to render the Japanese archipelago with these graphics is more than you can imagine and difficult to keep stable, so we had to give up. We hope to revisit this challenge in the future if the opportunity arises.”
Game Requirements vs. Performance Expectations
Despite NOBUNAGA’s AMBITION: Awakening not being the most demanding title in terms of hardware, its recommended PC specifications provide a clearer picture of its requirements:
- OS: Windows 10, Windows 11, 64bit
- Processor: Intel Core i7-3770 or higher (Windows 10); Intel Core i3-8350K or higher (Windows 11)
- Memory: 8 GB RAM
- Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB) or higher, AMD Radeon RX580 (8GB) or higher
- DirectX: Version 11
- Network: Broadband Internet connection
- Storage: 25 GB available space
- Sound Card: 16-bit stereo, 48KHz WAVE file support
- Additional Notes: 1920 x 1080 display required
Graphics and Gameplay Enhancements
Players can still expect a notable enhancement in graphics fidelity with the Nintendo Switch 2, as highlighted by Koei Tecmo’s Ryu. The improved hardware will notably elevate the realism of elements such as the sea, sky, and terrain, greatly enriching the gaming experience. Furthermore, the inclusion of intuitive controls via Joy-Con 2 and USB mouse support represents a significant step forward in user interface design.
Additionally, players can look forward to exclusive content previously available only in Asia, adding even more excitement to the game’s launch.
Launch Date Confirmation
The eagerly awaited Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled for release on Thursday, June 5. With a legacy of successful consoles and a strong lineup of titles, the launch promises to be a remarkable event for both gamers and Nintendo enthusiasts alike.
