Nintendo Switch 1: Ongoing Game Support and New Releases from Nintendo

Nintendo’s Commitment to the Switch Amidst Upcoming Launch of Switch 2
In light of the anticipated release of the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo has reaffirmed its dedication to the original Nintendo Switch by continuing to roll out new game titles. This confirmation was shared in a recent quarterly financial report, highlighting the company’s ongoing support for the existing console.
Upcoming Titles for Switch
The report provided an exciting glimpse into future releases for the Nintendo Switch, including:
- Pokémon Legends: Z-A
- Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (scheduled for 2025)
- Pokémon Champions (exact release date TBD)
- Rhythm Heaven Groove
- Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream (both set for 2026)
Nintendo has indicated that it will persist in launching new titles for the console’s vast player base, which numbers over 100 million globally.
Declining Hardware Sales Yet Strong Lifetime Performance
Despite its enduring popularity, the sales of the original Switch hardware have seen a notable decline year-over-year. In fiscal year 2024, Nintendo sold 15.70 million units, whereas fiscal year 2025 witnessed sales fall to 10.80 million units—a steep decrease of 31.2%.Nevertheless, the total lifetime sales are nearing 150 million units, solidifying its position as one of the best-selling consoles ever.
Nintendo Switch’s Competitive Edge
With a massive install base, second only to Sony’s PlayStation 2—which remains the best-selling console of all time at over 160 million units—it’s clear why Nintendo is eager to introduce new games for the Switch. However, the company is also strategically crafting exclusive titles aimed at enticing consumers to upgrade to the new Switch 2, set to release on June 5. Notably, the highly anticipated Mario Kart World will be exclusive to the new console.
