Overview of Current Nintendo Switch 2 Developments
- Nintendo has addressed recent leaks surrounding the Switch 2, which emerged from CES 2025.
- A company spokesperson asserted that Nintendo is not officially participating in CES this year, which means all images related to the Switch 2 from the event should not be interpreted as official.
Nintendo has recently made headlines by acknowledging the leaks associated with the Switch 2 that surfaced during CES 2025. This statement is significant, as it represents one of the few instances where the company has actively commented on product leaks. The emphasis was placed on the fact that the images circulating on the internet are unofficial.
Since late 2024, speculation surrounding the Switch 2 has intensified, particularly because reports indicate that the console entered mass production around that time. One notable leak came from the accessory brand Genki, which unveiled a supposed prototype of the new console at the Consumer Electronics Show held in Las Vegas this year. The mock-up quickly garnered attention on social media platforms.
Responding to inquiries from Sankei Shimbun, Nintendo reiterated its non-affiliation with CES 2025. A representative stated, “It is not official,”in reference to the leaked images and videos of Genki’s replica. They stressed that since Nintendo is not participating in the event, none of the Switch 2 materials showcased can be classified as official promotional content.
Is Genki’s Nintendo Switch 2 Replica Reliable?
Nintendo has refrained from commenting on the fidelity of Genki’s Switch 2 replica. Nonetheless, this mock-up might represent an accurate portrayal of the upcoming console, especially as it aligns with various leaks and rumors. Distinct from the original 2017 Switch, the replica appears to be slightly larger and features an additional button, marked “C,”located below the right Joy-Con’s home button. Its purpose, however, remains uncertain.
Eddie Tsai, the CEO of Genki, was unable to provide specific information about the elusive C button, but he did share intriguing claims about the Switch 2. Notably, he mentioned that the new Joy-Cons would attach magnetically to the console, moving away from the traditional sliding rail system. Additionally, he suggested that the controllers could potentially function similarly to a mouse, a concept previously hinted at by various reliable sources.
In the past year, Nintendo has reiterated its intention to reveal the Switch successor during its fiscal year 2024, which closes on March 31, 2025. With only 80 days remaining to fulfill this promise, anticipation continues to grow. However, it’s expected that the new console might not be available for purchase until the second quarter of 2025, with pricing speculated to be around $399.
