It Takes Two

Hazelight Studios has gained recognition for its distinctive cooperative gameplay, characterized by split-screen mechanics, starting with their first title, A Way Out. Following the release of their second game, It Takes Two, in 2021, fans have been excitedly waiting to see what the studio has in store for its next venture. Recent hints suggest that a major announcement is on the horizon.

Last week, Josef Fares, the founder of Hazelight Studios, began teasing a new and mysterious project via social media, stating, “I’m getting numerous inquiries about our next game. Here’s a little sneak peek. It’s a completely ORIGINAL IP titled S**** ******N. I can’t wait to unveil it soon.”

Not long after, the official accounts of Hazelight also contributed by posting an image, confirming the new title will be a fresh intellectual property rather than a sequel, focusing again on cooperative gameplay, akin to their prior releases. Once again, EA is collaborating with Hazelight to publish this project. Interestingly, the release year displayed on the image had a number obscured, indicating 202#, hinting at a full revelation to come alongside the game’s official announcement.

Following the founder’s hints, fans began speculating the potential title of the game, but it seems that an early leak may have unveiled it ahead of time.

According to well-regarded leaker and data miner Billbil-kun, the anticipated game title is expected to be Split Fiction.

A Way Out

Given the developer’s commitment to creating narrative-driven split-screen experiences available for both local and online play, the title likely reflects that theme. However, it’s essential to note that nothing is set in stone until an official statement is made by either EA or Hazelight.

Hazelight’s most recent success, It Takes Two, recently achieved sales of 20 million copies. Additionally, Hazelight Studios is preparing to celebrate its 10th anniversary in game development this November, and there’s a possibility we might witness gameplay or further details for the new title during that time.
