In every village within Monster Hunter Wilds, players can engage with a variety of NPCs. While some characters offer minimal dialogue, others play crucial roles in advancing the main story and side quests.

One key NPC that players will frequently encounter is Maki, who first appears during a main quest in Oilwell Basin. This guide outlines her locations throughout the game, assisting you in locating her both during missions and in town, as well as providing solutions for a potential bug where she might not appear.

Finding Maki in Monster Hunter Wilds (Oilwell Basin)

As you enter Oilwell Basin, you’ll spot Maki along with another village boy fleeing. Your main objective is to track her down, but do not rush blindly, as this will trigger a battle against a Pompopolo, a creature commonly found in the area. It’s advisable to carry antidotes to counteract poison and utilize a weapon that deals Water damage, avoiding poison attacks. You can opt to follow the game’s suggested route or head directly to Area 10, located in the northwestern part of the middle layer of the region.

Once you reach Area 10, you’ll initiate the fight against the monster. Defeating it will unlock a cutscene where you rescue Maki and guide her safely back to town.

Locating Maki in Town

Beyond her initial storyline appearance, Maki features in various optional quests located within the town. She tends to wander, so it’s best to begin your search in Azuz, the Everforge, accessible via fast travel. There, you’ll find her around the northern portion of the village’s circular gathering space.

If Maki isn’t at the Everforge, ascend the stairs toward the northern area of town, where she often engages in conversation with Yabran, who can be seen sitting on a rock. As an item trader marked on your map, Yabran will help you locate Maki easily at either spot.

Troubleshooting Maki’s Absence in Town

Players may occasionally experience an issue where Maki does not show up in town. If you encounter this problem, there are two steps you can take to potentially resolve it:

  • Fast travel to a different region and then return.
  • Rest at your tent, allowing one in-game day to pass.

It’s recommended to attempt the first option first, as it does not cost any Guild Points. However, please note that neither method guarantees a solution, though they have been proven to work for some players. If these steps do not yield results, carry out other in-game activities for a while; eventually, time may resolve the issue, and Maki will reappear.
