Minecraft doesn’t need an entire update to make poisonous potato useful, just one feature is enough

Mojang Studios recently launched Minecraft’s April Fools snapshot, which revolved entirely around the poisonous potato. The developers humorously designed a whole dimension, along with items, blocks, and even a boss mob, all inspired by the poisonous potato. The game’s official website and launcher also incorporated special features related to this particular food item.
But, adding just one feature is all that the developers need to do in order for poisonous potatoes to become useful in Minecraft.
Potentially Beneficial Uses for Poisonous Potatoes in Minecraft
Benefits of Composting Poisonous Potatoes
Poisonous potatoes can be thrown in a composter to produce bone meal (Image via Mojang Studios)Whenever players collect potatoes from their farms, there is a 2% possibility that they will also receive regular potatoes. However, these potatoes are known for their high chance of causing the poison effect for five seconds when consumed, as their name suggests. Therefore, they serve no purpose and only add clutter to the player’s inventory or storage containers.
Composting is a process where players can place various types of vegetation into a composter block to create bone meal, which can then be used to accelerate plant growth in Minecraft. Although a wide variety of vegetation can be added to the composter, it is not possible to use a poisonous potato as it is not recognized as a suitable source of organic material by the block.
In 2019, a player reported a bug to Mojang Studios regarding poisonous potatoes not being able to be composted. However, the developers responded by stating that this was the intended functionality. This reveals that several years ago, the developers did not have any plans to incorporate new capabilities for the lethal vegetable.
Despite this, they have the option to implement the use of poisonous potatoes as manure in a composter, which would greatly enhance its functionality.
New Features in Poisonous Potato Update (Minecraft 2024 April Fools Snapshot)
In light of poisonous potatoes being deemed entirely pointless in Minecraft, Mojang Studios seized the chance to develop a full snapshot for April Fools’ Day centered on the spoiled food. They named this version 24w14potato and released it on Minecraft’s official launcher.
The main menu has been updated to feature the poisonous potato dimension, giving players a fresh experience. Despite spawning in the Overworld as usual, players can now craft a variety of unique items and blocks using poisonous potatoes.
Mojang Studios went above and beyond by incorporating poisonous potato into every aspect of their update, from basic building blocks to new utility blocks.
If a player comes across a damaged potato portal, they must utilize a poisonous potato on the newly placed pedestal block in order to activate it. The dimension consists entirely of suspended islands, resembling the well-known Sky Dimension that Mojang Studios never incorporated.
The dimension encompasses five distinct biomes: arboretum, corruption, fields, hash, and wasteland. Each of these biomes possesses a distinct appearance and atmosphere, as well as a variety of different blocks.
