Recent Player Insights on Major Game Releases

A comprehensive report from The Game Business, in collaboration with Ampere Analysis, has revealed striking player statistics for several notable video game launches in June, including titles like MindsEye, FBC: Firebreak, Dune: Awakening, and Rematch.

MindsEye: Challenging Launch and Player Reception

The launch of MindsEye has been plagued with significant troubles, leading to widespread player dissatisfaction. Major technical glitches have prompted many players to seek refunds on the PlayStation platform. Compounding these issues, developer Build a Rocket Boy announced potential layoffs impacting as many as 100 employees.

According to data from Ampere Analysis, MindsEye currently has nearly 250, 000 players, with approximately 150, 000 on PlayStation alone. In contrast, on Steam, where the game’s user-generated content platform operates, the player count stands at just 35, 000.

Furthermore, MindsEye has garnered a less-than-favorable reputation, being labeled as the worst-reviewed game of 2025 thus far. Despite Build a Rocket Boy’s rapid deployment of hotfixes, the future success of their debut title remains uncertain, particularly given that its unique selling point—user-generated content—is accessible to only a small fraction of its player base.

FBC: Firebreak’s Performance and Player Dynamics

Another title highlighted in The Game Business report is FBC: Firebreak, which, despite its total player base exceeding 1.3 million, has also encountered obstacles in its launch phase. Player distribution reveals that it has attracted nearly 800, 000 players on Xbox, while PlayStation hosts around 541, 000 and Steam trails with approximately 54, 000 players.

For a game that leans heavily on multiplayer engagement, these figures are below what developers typically aim for. Additionally, the game’s availability on Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus suggests that many of these players might not translate into conventional sales. Nonetheless, Remedy Entertainment is committed to Firebreak, celebrating the milestone of over 1 million players. In a recent communication, they expressed enthusiasm for future updates, stating, “We know there is still a lot of work ahead of us, and we are super motivated about it. We have a lot of exciting things cooking for Firebreak players! More about that soon, ”via their platform X.

Success Stories Among June Releases

Conversely, several titles have emerged as triumphs post-launch, such as Dune: Awakening and Rematch. Both games have exceeded expectations, with Dune: Awakening surpassing 1.2 million players according to recent reports from Funcom. Meanwhile, the indie sensation Peak, developed by Aggro Crab and Landfall, achieved a remarkable milestone, selling over 1 million copies within its first week of release.

As player counts continue to evolve, Ampere Analysis indicates that Rematch’s player base is primarily concentrated on Xbox, thanks to its presence on Xbox Game Pass. The game boasts approximately 1.58 million players on this platform, alongside nearly 800, 000 on PlayStation and over 1.1 million on PC. With the anticipated introduction of crossplay support from Sloclap, it will be intriguing to observe how Rematch’s community expands further.
