This title was officially announced shortly after the release of the Nintendo Switch, but it won’t be hitting the market until after the introduction of the Nintendo Switch 2—a prolonged wait of over eight years. Nevertheless, there’s good news: the game is real, set to launch in 2025, and I had the chance to experience it firsthand at a recent preview event for the new hardware.
First Impressions of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
So, what can we expect from Metroid Prime 4: Beyond? Allow me to share my initial thoughts based on the demo presented at the Nintendo event. During the showcase, I was treated to a brief preview that included the game’s introductory sequence and its first boss encounter. The journey begins as the iconic bounty hunter, Samus Aran, arrives in the heat of battle between the Federation Force and the notorious Space Pirates on the alien world of Tenmaar. Unlike previous titles in the series that embraced a solitary atmosphere, this segment is characterized by a heightened sense of activity and conflict, setting the stage for a more dynamic experience.
Enhanced Controls and Mechanics
One of Nintendo’s primary goals for the Metroid Prime 4 demonstration was to showcase its innovative control schemes, particularly the new mouse controls. That said, I am curious about the shift in focus towards shooting mechanics this time around, as evidenced by Nintendo’s presentation choices.
Visual and Technical Highlights
Visually, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond exhibits qualities reminiscent of early PS4 titles, particularly in terms of model detail and environmental richness. What stands out is the technical polish—although it resembles an older generation title, it operates significantly smoother. The graphics are sharp, and the demo consistently ran at an impressive 120fps.
