The Daily Grind: Does your MMO need a quest pruning?

More options are always better… or are they? With decision paralysis being a real observable and experiential phenomenon, I’m not sure that’s true. It used to be a huge selling point of MMOs to boast about how many quests they had to offer, but those hundreds and thousands of missions pile up into an intimidating mass after a while.
Today, I’d like to toss out the concept of a quest pruning (or quest squish). Star Wars: The Old Republic famously did this when it automatically opted players out of seeing sidequests (you can still opt in) on the map in order to keep them on the main storylines.
But what about going further? Should MMOs actually take quests out of the game that are basically filler and background noise without much of a purpose? Should titles emphasize quality over quantity in this area?
