A while back, MOP’s Carlo clipped an MMO conversation about the perceived problem with New World: “I think the problem with New World is the characters aren’t hot,” this player opined.

I have so many thoughts, starting with agreement that New World’s characters aren’t hot – he’s right about that. I just hated how my characters looked in there. The game is gorgeous, but the characters just look like they’re using the wrong skeletons and rigging and animation. And I know Amazon is aware of this because it’s been working on improving everything from clothing to poses, especially for female characters.

At the same time, I’m not sure the problem is hotness or lack thereof. I am the kind of person who plays shorties and weird toons when I can. I have two ithorians, the least sexy turtle/shark people I can imagine. I’m looking for characters with some sort of spark or appeal, not necessarily hotness. And New World doesn’t really have any kind of spark for me, hot or not.

Then again, in the MMO world we have dozens of games that appear to survive entirely on the strength of their titillating fan service, so maybe that dude is on to something.

Are you looking to play hotties in MMORPG? Do you actively roll conventionally hot toons?
