The Daily Grind: How much are you willing to suffer for character choices in an MMO?

Let’s engage in a hypothetical. Years ago, you made a character in World of Warcraft who you decided was a Fire Mage. The reasons for this do not matter, but the important thing is that he is a Fire Mage. As the years have gone by, however, Fire Mage has gone from a spec you enjoy playing to one you actively dislike. You do actively like some other options, like Destruction Warlock, but you don’t enjoy Fire Mage. But this is your main character, and he’s a Fire Mage. How long are you willing to suffer through this?
The actual specs here don’t matter, of course; the key is that this is not a decision being made for considerations of DPS or anything of the sort. This is just a spec that you have decided on for the character despite not liking it. How long will you stick with that despite not caring for it? How many expansions will you go through playing something you don’t love even if there are options you do because darn it, this is your hill and you’re going to die on this one?
