WoW Factor: Forget World of Warcraft patch 11.2 – I can’t wait for Legion Remix

I don’t know about you, but my World of Warcraft schedule is rapidly filling for the rest of this year and well into 2026. We’ve got several currently running events (such as Turbulent Timeways and Collector’s Bounty), Patch 11.2 coming early next month, some other follow-up patches later in the fall, the Midnight expansion reveal in August, player housing (!) by the end of the year, and the rollout of the next chapter of the Worldsoul Saga presumably in spring of next year.
As Blizzard seems devoted to not allowing any of us to catch our breath, there’s one more thing that’s going to be sandwiched into either the fall or winter: Legion Remix. And with the exception of housing, it’s by far the release that I’m looking forward to more than all the rest.
World of Warcraft: Legion is easily the expansion that I point at as my favorite from this MMO to date. When it first came out in 2016, I had just returned to WoW after a pretty lengthy absence. Draenor was fun for a few months, but then Legion hit — and it felt like a second renaissance of Azeroth suddenly appeared.
While it made missteps along the way, Blizzard pulled out all the stops for this expansion: A new zone, (eventually) new races, world quests, artifacts, class stories and order halls, a new class, a revamped Dalaran, class mounts, legendary items, Suramar, and so much more. It felt hand-crafted and tailored to limitless entertainment, an answer and an apology to the terrible content drought of the previous pack.
The two years of the Legion era cemented my return to the game. I had such a blast unlocking allied races, going through the campaigns, and leveling up a raft of alts while making gold hand over fist. It certainly helped that the Broken Isles were such a visually appealing place to quest, with nary an ugly or disappointing zone in sight.
So obviously, there’s a dump truck of nostalgia waiting to back up and unload all over my mind. But that isn’t the sole reason why I’m thrilled about Legion Remix.
I think that by the time that it comes out, if Blizzard times it just right, we’ll feel as if we’re done with The War Within. Pandaria Remix was a reheated plate to tide us over between the end of Dragonflight and The War Within, and we can expect that Legion Remix is going to function in much the same way. Get us out of the areas we’ve been stomping around for well over a year and dust off an old favorite for us to do together once more.
And I think that is a big part of the fun, doing it alongside the entire community. It’s kind of like an MMO progression server… only in reverse, if that makes any sense. There’s a lot of fondness for Legion among WoW players, and it’s a great idea for the studio to target it for the next Remix treatment.
A side benefit of participating in this is to speed-level a new character, as we can’t take any current members of our warband into it. If there’s a class or alt idea you’ve been thinking about trying on the side, Legion Remix offers the perfect time for experimentation. When leveling is so fast and easy, what do you have to lose?
While Blizzard hasn’t fully explained its plans for Legion Remix, including how it’s going to handle artifacts and other borrowed power systems, it did drop a few details for us to ponder. The alternate game mode is going to give us the option to activate a much more difficult landscape mode called “Shattered Timeline” that could include even more rewards. Mythic+ is going to be worked into this remix, and you can bet that the Mage Tower is coming back.
Of most interest to a lot of us, I suspect, is the fact that we’ll be able to run around this entire expansion and hoover up tons and tons of unlocks — transmogs, armor sets, pets, mounts, and (who knows?) future housing decor. In Pandaria Remix, there were even special rewards for certain zone meta achievements, which I hope is carried forward here.
I hope that Blizzard handles the timing and structure of this right because if it does, it’s going to turn this fall and winter into a truly fun waiting room. I can’t wait to see what the studio has in store. Perhaps we’ll hear more about this at Gamescom, although it might be a little overshadowed by all of the Midnight news. We’ll see.
In the meanwhile, let’s chat about Legion Remix in the comments! Are you excited? Do you have class choices and ultimate goals in mind? Are there parts of Legion you never did before that you want to accomplish herre?
