I have never met someone whose conception of a good MMORPG player does not include them. This sometimes involves a fair amount of conceptual gymnastics, so the person in question has to qualify that maybe I can’t handle even a single additional enemy in the open world or five minutes of even the least stressful group content, but I have an orange shirt on, so I’m really the good player; everyone else wishes they had my orange shirt. And hey, sure, maybe everyone really does want that orange shirt.

This, of course, goes hand-in-hand with the guy who insists that he’s the best DPS if you ignore the times he dies to mechanics or the guy who is the best because he doesn’t die to mechanics and screams ethnic slurs during progression content. Life is hilarious!

But today I want you to remove yourself from the equation. I want you to instead answer the question in the abstract. What do you consider a good player in an MMORPG? Without addressing your own ability or lacks, what makes you think someone is good at the game?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
