A while back, MOP reader Hebby joked on Mastodon that she intentionally plays bad MMOs, but even she was surprised to see a certain MMO that shall remain nameless getting coverage.

So I want to talk about the idea of playing bad MMOs. At first, I was tempted to scoff; why would anyone do this, in a world where there are so many good MMOs? But then I remembered that I sometimes go out of my way to do this too. I play a lot of MMOs that many gamers would consider dreadful antiques, and I’d be first to point out their problems. And I sit in a job that even rewards trying out the trash. Plus, sometimes there’s some nugget of gold buried under the rubble, so I always want to at least look.

Are we alone in this? Do you ever purposely play bad MMOs?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
