We’ve talked before about the skills we’ve picked up in MMOs; for example, I have several friends from countries all over who honed their English skills using MMO text and voice chat. But what about the opposite – what about real-world skills that you’ve brought with you into MMOs?

I’ve certainly never been sorry about having mastered spreadsheets, for example, because I use them all the time to help me understand and organize my stuff in MMOs. Likewise, I’ve seen some folks really kick ass with intuitive understanding in flight games because of their familiarity with flight controls. Having military training might make you more instinctive about smart play in FPSes, having architectural or design experience might make your houses more impressive, and leadership or diplomacy skills might make you a better raider.

I’m speculating here – do you have any real-world skills that have come in handy in MMOs?
