I’ve more than once told the story about my guildie who bought a lifetime sub to Hellgate London (oh no). And I’ve personally never bought one for an MMO at all. But lately, I kinda wish I had picked one up back in the day for Lord of the Rings Online because just in the last few years, I would’ve more than gotten my money’s worth when compared to paying the sub every few months.

Sure, some folks consider lifetime accounts an outright scam, and for some games, they’d be right. Other folks would (correctly) point to way SSG has gotten around the perks afforded to lifers by redefining content to require different payment types or not unlock freely (and SSG is not alone in this!). You tell me: Are lifetime MMO subs ever worth it? Which one has given you the best value through the years?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
